With the Presidential General Election rapidly approaching, Ohio residents should be aware of the voting options available to them. Developing a plan to vote increases the likelihood of your ballot being counted. While this firm cannot and is not providing legal advice, we do offer the following information for Ohio residents.

 

In the midst of a pandemic, voting at the polls may not be the best option for many Ohioans. Fortunately, the state of Ohio offers alternative ways for its residents to cast their vote. Ohio residents can visit the Ohio Absentee Ballot Application website to fill out an application to receive an absentee ballot. Upon return of the completed form, Ohio voters will receive an absentee ballot. The absentee ballot will be mailed to the registered voter’s confirmed address and can be returned by mail. Alternatively, the ballot can be returned in person at any vote-by-mail drop box location. If you do not receive your vote-by-mail ballot before October 23., contact your county elections official to receive a second ballot.

As an alternative to having voters return their completed vote-by-mail ballots in the mail for the Presidential General Election, Ohio Election Officials have implemented an accessible, transparent, and convenient program for voters to drop off their mail ballot in a secure drop box. Voters can complete their ballot at home and deposit them into one of the several hundred drop boxes dispersed throughout the state of Ohio. Before dropping your ballot off in a drop box, be sure to place your voted ballot card inside the Official Return Envelope, seal the envelope, and sign and date the back of the envelope. The ballots will then be collected by elected officials from the drop boxes.

Voters registered in Ohio can register to vote in the General Election until October 5, 2020 and can request an absentee ballot until October 31, 2020. Early voting and mail-in voting begins October 6, 2020. The completed ballot should be returned to a drop box before November 3 at 7,30 p.m. Ohio voters can track their ballot at https/www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/toolkitit/ballot-tracking/.
